The 2023 Fleurie returns to its original blend, sourced predominantly from Labourons with 10% La Madone. The warm, dry vintage led to the use of 60% whole clusters. The century-old Labourons vines produce wonderfully aromatic fruit from tiny bunches, while La Madone, Fleurie's best-known site, contributes depth and finesse.

The grapes spent 20 days in tank with gentle pump-overs and foot pigeage before aging in older 500L barrels, tank and a Clayver. This stoneware vessel adds an extra layer of complexity. The wine was bottled in May, earlier than usual, reflecting the vintage rather than a fixed schedule.

The elevated, rocky vineyards preserve freshness even in warmer years, producing a true Cru Beaujolais with energy and fine tannins. Medium purple in colour, the wine is packed with crunchy red fruit, rose petal and a hint of spice. Fresh and beautifully balanced, it has impressive depth without heaviness, finishing with fine tannins and a subtle edge more often associated with Pinot Noir than Gamay. Approachable now, but it will continue to evolve beautifully in the cellar.
